Natural Wedding Photography.

If you’ve been researching wedding photographers for your wedding and realising that nothing you’re seeing feels quite like ‘you,’ then you’re in good hands here.

Because you know, you don’t have to have traditional wedding photography.

You don’t have to pose for portraits or stage individual moments of fun. You’ve seen the bridesmaids holding up the groom, right? And the groomsmen striding toward the camera with stiff arms and awkward smiles?

Those don’t need to be your photos.

You can have unfiltered, candid photography that focuses on documenting the essence of actually being there. So when you look back over your photos in years to come, you can vividly recall how each of your senses reacted at the time.

You can choose to have wedding photography that truly echoes your personalities and those of your nearest and dearest.

How photojournalistic wedding photography gives you natural wedding photos.

Keep it unscripted.

Imagine not needing to worry about the overdone and unremarkable photo rituals. No forced smiles, aching cheeks, or awkward ‘what do I do with my hands?’ moments.

Imagine not being pulled away by your wedding photographer from the people you really want to spend the day with. And instead, being part of all those adrenaline-fuelled and love-buoyed interactions that are truly worth remembering.

Instead of trying to orchestrate a feeling of wedding serenity and calm just for the photos, imagine choosing to embrace the nerves, the build-up, the tension in the room, the chaos, the double-chin laughter, the ugly cry, and the toddler who won’t stand still and smile.

Your wedding day will be a riotous, rousing, and rollicking affair – shall we tell it like it is? Let’s get the picture-perfect moments and the almost unnoticed bits in between.

Hire a photojournalist to document your stories.

Photojournalists put storytelling above all else. Yes, we still like pretty… but we like lots of other flavours and will use a lot of aesthetic and storytelling techniques to put you right back in the moment. (Ideally we’ll put other people in that moment too – people who were never there in the first place – Photography really can be magic.)

Keep it Timeless.

Trends come and go – but good storytelling and strong imagary lasts forever. You may look back at your stylistic choices in your photos with that sweet nostalgic mix of fondness and horror, but don’t let your photography be so on trend that you can date it by the 2025 dutch tilt.

Keep it low key and stress free.

Neither your photographer or yourselves should be working off lists and spreadsheets. These just create cookie cutter sets of wedding photos. This should be about you and your guests relaxing, enjoying the day and letting the photos flow.

Create a wedding album that’s more about you and your guests than the details and poses.

The details are always in the pictures anyway – but a photojournalist will be more interested in guest reactions, storytelling and capturing all the natural in-between photos.

There’s so much to document.

The subtle looks, the nervous glance at the clock, the casual arm thrown round a shoulder, the informality amongst old friends, the shouting of ‘you getting the shots in, Dave?’ across the table, the finding of common ground between strangers, the tired toddler with cake in their hair, the abandoned shoes and head-thrown-back laughter.
