Microweddings: Small and Intimate Weddings (& Elopements)

I've always loved shooting microweddings - small and intimate weddings.

While I do love a big party and a full on wedding – Occasionally I get invited to shoot family parties, blessings, and smaller events. I love capturing the little moments and the love between family and friends.

If you need a photographer for just a couple of hours please drop me a line. Although I love a big ceremony as much as anyone, I also love these small intimate weddings where every breath or movement seems to matter.

As well as the flexibility that smaller weddings offer – feed the ducks and go for Bakewell Pudding (this was a real wedding)? Hike up to the top of the steepest hill in the country (done it)?

If you do have a microwedding, smaller event or even elopement (does anyone elope to the peak district?) please drop me a line and we can discuss what you need.

What is a microwedding?

Microweddings are smaller ceremonies – usually with anything from 2-25 guests. They tend to be more intimate, and couples tend to be more creative with how their day pans out – often opting for an unconventional day of activities, or a more intimate reception venue.

(Of course, there’s also an argument to go full luxury, as with a smaller number of guests there’s less people to multiply costs by)

How far in advance should we book our microwedding photographer?

This is a rare occasion where I’d say (as I usually only take microweddings on weekdays) if you are planning a weekend one, please feel free to try me a few weeks or months out from your wedding.

How many photos can we expect to receive from our microwedding?

The number of photos you receive depends on various factors such as the length of coverage, the size of your wedding, and the events taking place. On average, you can expect to receive 50-100 edited photos per hour of coverage.

How soon after the wedding will we receive our photos?

You can expect to receive your fully edited photos within 4-6 weeks of your micro wedding. We strive to deliver your images promptly while ensuring each one has that special magic that you see across the weddings on my blog.

Do you take formal portraits / group photos?

I do – about half of my couples ask for group shots at their wedding. I like to do this quickly and efficiently so that it’s not too distracting from the day itself, so I ask couples to pick a maximum of 10 combinations where possible. It also helps to rope in someone loud and bossy to gather the relevant people for each photo!

Do you have experience shooting microweddings?

Yes, I have experience shooting microweddings and understand the unique dynamics and details involved in smaller, intimate celebrations. As with everything I photograph I have the ethic of ‘show how it felt’ – and microweddings tend to have a unique atmosphere that fizzles with a quiet intimacy.

Do you offer engagement sessions as part of the microwedding package?

Yes, engagement sessions can be added to your microwedding package for an additional fee. Engagement sessions are a great way for us to get to know each other and capture some beautiful images before your big day.

Do you travel for microweddings?

Although most weddings I shoot are around Derbyshire and the Midlands, I love to go on a wedding adventure. I charge for travel expenses as needed. But if your venue is less than an hour drive from Derby, it’s considered local!

How do we book?

As with  all my couples – I like to get to know about you and what you want from your photography first. So drop me an enquiry and we’ll meet for coffee, jump on the phone, and start getting a plan together for your (little) big day

We cannot recommend Simon enough. Having a small, intimate wedding, we were cautious that having a formal photographer might spoil the atmosphere but Simon was extremely discrete, managing to capture it all without us hardly noticing he was there!

We absolutely love our photos. Simon has a true talent for capturing natural, subtle moments, with beautiful light, colour and context.

Genuine interesting photos, which I personally feel is quite rare in wedding photography!
