Derby Wedding Photographer - Contemporary reportage

You probably have plenty of questions. Here are answers to some of the more common questions I'm asked;

What is your style of photography?

There are a lot of wedding photographers, and it’s important that you find a style that you love and that you think will suit you & your wedding day. I work in a reportage style, documenting your wedding as it happens rather than setting up posed shots to tell the story. I prefer to make the best use of natural light rather than fussing about with lighting setups on your day. My wedding photography is as much about the guests as the couple, and if there's one thing I want to capture at every wedding it's the intimacy of family and friends.

What are the advantages of hiring a professional wedding photographer?

There are a lot of advantages to hiring a professional to take your wedding photos. The quality of images, a professional approach towards both you and your guests, being fully insured, having plenty of back-up equipment. I wrote a guest article for ezine outlining some of the issues you should consider when booking a photographer that can be found here.

Do we own the copyright to the photos?

No. But what you will have is permission to print as many copies as you like, as large as you like, without any watermarking or reduction in quality.

How far do you travel for a wedding?

As a Derby wedding photographer, I’m ideally positioned for travelling to weddings all over the UK. For weddings within 30 miles of Derby expenses are included in the price quoted. For weddings further afield than this there will be some additional expenses. These will be stated in the initial quote.

How far ahead can I book you?

As far in advance as you want. People often book a year or two ahead, so I recommend getting a booking in as early as possible. There are only so many Saturdays in a year, and once they’re gone.....

How do I go about confirming a booking?

I prefer to meet couples before they sign a contract as I believe meeting with photographers is an important part of selecting your photographer. You don't want to find out on the day that you've booked someone who makes your hair stand on end.

Do you require a deposit?

A 25% deposit is required to complete the booking. This can be paid via cheque, cash or balance transfer.

What preparation do you do before our wedding?

I meet most clients at least once before the wedding day, often with a second meeting at yout venue if you've booked a long time in advance. I'll also see you at your engagement shoot if you've booked one.

If you’re too far away to make meeting up a possibility, I can always be reached by e-mail or phone.

I always try to visit the wedding venues beforehand or arrive early to stake out the venue on the day.

All of my equipment is checked, packed, checked again and re-packed in the days leading up to your wedding. I have a couple of cameras and spare lenses, so I am well covered.

What if it rains on my wedding day?

It's extremely common with the British weather - even in summertime. It rarely rains all day, and if you are happy to shift things about at the last minute group shots can usually be arranged around the weather. I'm also experienced in using interior spaces to set up group shots. A bit of rain can also add to the atmosphere of the day!

I really don’t like posing for photos. Will we have to pose?

You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to. It’s your wedding. Some of my clients don't want to pose for shots at all - but the majority like a couple of relaxed shots of the two of them..

Do you photograph group shots?

As I work in a documentary style I suggest keeping the group shots to a minimum. In my experience you can ensure you have photos will all of your guests in between 5 to 8 carefully selected group photos. This will take, at most, 30 minutes.I’m happy to discuss these with you.

Do we need to provide food for you on the day?

Yes please, if I am there for the whole wedding day. I like to eat in a quiet area away from the guests so I can back up cards, change batteries ect..

Will we be able to view our photos online?

Yes. I post images from the wedding online in a secure gallery and give you the details to pass on to your guests.

How long will it take to receive my album or DVD of images?

If you've ordered a disk of images, they will be ready within 3 weeks of the wedding. I will arrange a session to present you with the disk and we can discuss if you would like an album or prints making up. Albums are usually ready 28 days after you have approved the design.

Can we order anything else from you?

Yes. From single prints to impressive framed pieces of wall art. You can also order smaller, duplicate albums as gifts for family or friends.
